Passage of the day · Sunday 1 November 2026
No longer talk at all about what sort of person a good person should be, but be one.
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 10.16 · modern English rendering · check the source
George Long translation
No longer talk at all about the kind of man that a good man ought to be, but be such.
Modern reading
Marcus is writing to himself here, and he is impatient. Talking about good character is easy, and it can quietly stand in for the real thing. His instruction is short: stop describing it and start doing it. The test is in ordinary moments, not in the plans.
